Zoals jullie wellicht wel al gelezen hebben, was ik enkele weken terug in Gran Canaria. Het moest een rustvakantie worden, maar eigenlijk hebben we toch wel veel tijd in de huurwagen doorgebracht om het volledige eiland af te rijden. We vertrokken naar het Noorden en we bezochten het stadje Acuras, reden rond Galdar (veel rotsen), stopten in Sardina del Norte (zwart zandstrand) en aten een overheerlijke lunch in Puerto de las Nieves, een klein wit/blauw vissersdorpje. Het waren helse tochten langs de bergen met afgrond naast ons. De meeste wegen waren wel heel nieuw, maar toch wat creepy als je niet weet of er een tegenligger zal opduiken aan de andere kant…
We wilden eens weg van het zuiden van het eiland dat super toeristisch is. Daar liggen de stranden helemaal vol en dat is niet zo aan ons besteed. Ik was al blij dat ons hotel helemaal afgelegen lag.

A few weeks ago I was in sunny Gran Canaria. We wanted to have a relax vacation, but in the end we did a lot of touring on that tiny island. We started in the north and visited Acuras, saw all the rocks and caves around Galdar, touched black sand in Sardina del Norte and ate a lovely fish dish as lunch in Puerto de las Nieves, the cutest little fishers’ town ever. It was a fun but creepy ride through the mountains. Ideal if you like a little ‘race’, but still, you have to be careful since you don’t know who is just around the corner..
We wanted to get away of the south of the island. Beaches filled with tourists, well that is not my kind of thing. I was glad to have a hotel that was remote.

Maar ook veel mooie dingen. Ik wil meer van dat! Bij mijn volgende bestemming zal mooie fauna en flora zeker heel belangrijk zijn.

I saw a lot of dirty rocks and mountains, but also a lot of pretty things. I want more of those pretty things. Fauna and flora will be very important when I look for my next destination.
